
Dr. Mohammed Alshawsh is an Adjunct Professor at Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia and a Research Fellow at Monash University, Australia. He obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya in 2012 and then joined the Department of Pharmacology, University of Malaya in 2013 after completing his one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution. His research interests are focused on investigating the pharmacological effects of flavonoids, polyphenols, and probiotics in the management of colorectal cancer, obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver diseases as well as investigating the underlying molecular mechanisms and signalling pathways. He has extensive experience in the areas of microbiome, metagenomics, systematic review and meta-analysis, and toxicity testing, including acute, subacute, and chronic toxicity, genotoxicity, teratogenicity and postnatal developmental toxicity. Dr. Alshawsh serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal “BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies”. He has supervised 10 PhD and 4 Master’s students to completion and is currently supervising 9 PhD and 2 Master’s students. He has published over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index of 21 and has given over 25 invited and plenary lectures at international conferences. In addition, he has facilitated more than 20 national and international workshops and has obtained several research grants, including UMRG, BKS, PPP, PRGS and FRGS.
